About

What Systems, Noted is: long-form essays on architecture, modernization and delivery inside large organizations.

Systems, Noted publishes essays about software that has to keep standing: the systems large organizations depend on, the people who keep them upright, and the slow work of changing them without dropping them.

The essays are long because the subjects are. A rewrite that took four years does not fit in a listicle, and the interesting part is usually in the middle, where the plan met the org chart. We define our terms, date our historical parallels, and link primary sources rather than coverage of them.

Publishing since December 2024, on no particular schedule. When an essay is ready, it ships; the RSS feed and the occasional letter carry the news. Disagreements, corrections and war stories are welcome at [email protected]; the best letters have changed later essays.
